Strings

Choosing strings for the violin is much like choosing strings for any other instrument. It is essentially up to the performers personal preferences as well as the repertoire that they play, which will determine the type of strings they will choose. 24 Another aspect that could be taken into consideration is the gauge of the string. Tone critically relies on gauge (string thickness).5, 10 String thickness affects the velocity of response and quality of sound produces.5 Basically, the larger the diameter the heavier the string, producing a louder and thicker tone.15  Altogether there are 3 types of strings out in the market for violinists today. They are gut-core, synthetic, and metal-core. 4, 10, 11, 25
